About DISK
Doshisha International School, Kyoto (DISK) is a member of the Doshisha family of schools, established in 2011 as a part of the Doshisha International Academy (DIA) in Kizugawa city. DISK is a grade 8-12 school that delivers an international curriculum in English designed to meet the needs of the internationally-minded community residing in the Kansai area. DISK is about friendship, nurturing respect for all cultures, academic achievement, collaboration, balanced living, community, creativity, and expression with a spirit of excitement.
DISK obtained international accreditation through the prestigious International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO). IBO Diploma Program (DP) authorization came in late 2011, followed by IBO Primary Years Program (PYP) authorization in early 2014. Our middle school curriculum models the IBO Middle Years Program (MYP) framework.
As an IBO World School, DISK aims to develop internationally-minded people who recognize their common humanity. Shared guardianship of the planet and aspire to help create a better and more peaceful world.
We follow the IB learner profile, which describes a broad range of human capacities and responsibilities beyond academic success. We believe these attributes, and others like them can help individuals and groups become responsible members of local, national, and global communities.
DISK is a candidate school seeking accreditation with the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) which validates the capacity, commitment, and competence to support high-quality student learning and ongoing school improvement.

What is Doshisha International Academy?
Doshisha International Academy (DIA) is a unique concept in Japan where two schools exist in the same building, guided by the same educational philosophy. Namely, DISK and DIA ES (Elementary School).
Unlike DISK, DIA ES (referred to as Shotoubu) is a school that implements the Article 1 Japanese national curriculum alongside the IBO Primary Years Program (PYP) for Grades 1-6. 50% of classes conducted are in English, and the rest are in Japanese.
