Study Trips, and Expeditions
'…we believe that field trips, and expeditions provide students with meaningful opportunities to grow socially, emotionally, academically, and physically to improve their resilience, skills, self confidence and general wellbeing.'
Study Trips
Every student comes to the classroom with a different world experience. Students exposed to many things do better in school. To be successful readers, students need to relate what they read to what they've experienced. To think deeply, students need a variety of experiences. Study trips are an integral and essential aspect of the DISK curriculum, providing meaningful real-world experiences beyond the classroom, access to new tools and environments, and opportunities to grow. Examples of study trips include:
- MUN (Model United Nations) in Kobe.
- Art Museums.
- Visits to famous and historically significant temples and landmarks.
- Visits to cultural and scientific facilities in the Keihanna Science City.
- TEDx Kyoto.
Expeditions
Expeditions are an integral part of extracurricular life. They provide opportunities for students to gain skills, knowledge, and understanding through challenging outdoor pursuits and develop a risk-taking attitude.
Age-appropriate wilderness settings allow the students to discover, explore and engage with the natural world strengthening their connections to nature and their sense of place.
Being mindful of the environment, students practice using the natural world for wellness as they develop an appreciation for outdoor living and a fit-for-life mindset. Leadership, self-management, and collaboration opportunities empower students to make meaningful connections with each other, classroom central ideas/concepts, and everyday life. The health and well-being of students are evaluated in advance and during expeditions to reduce the risks associated with them.
