English

English in middle school focuses on building the skills needed for success in the IB Diploma Program (IBDP). Students learn according to the AERO curriculum framework, a collection of key concepts and learning standards that focus on specific skills in the following categories: reading informational texts, reading literature, academic writing, creative writing, the writing process, group discussion, viewing texts other than the written word, presenting, grammar, and vocabulary. Students who are successful in these courses will find themselves well prepared for the IBDP higher and standard level Language and Literature and Literature courses.

The grade 6 to 10 English program uses a criteria-referenced assessment framework and an inquiry-driven approach to the subject. The course emphasizes analyzing, organizing, producing text, and using language.
