History

The IB history course at DISK includes the study of the history of authoritarian states and causes and effects of war in the 20th century. Students develop higher order thinking skills through interactive classroom activities, presentations, discussions, and analysis of a wide range of historical sources.  The course involves the study of a variety of types of history (political, economic, social, and cultural) and encourages students to develop historical skills while also gaining factual knowledge of the past.  Students are also encouraged to develop understanding of multiple interpretations of history.

Students taking the course at Higher Level (HL) will also complete an intense study of European history, 1871-1945.

Assessments include an exam involving historical source analysis, a second exam involving essay writing, and a historical investigation research paper. Students taking the course at Higher Level will have an additional essay-based exam.
