Individuals & Societies
Individuals and Societies in middle school focus on building the skills needed for success in the IB Diploma Program (IBDP). In grades 6 to 8, students learn about world geography (culture and physical). In grades 9 and 10, the emphasis shifts to the in-depth study of world history and economics. Students engage with and inquire into global issues too. Students who are successful in these courses will find themselves well-prepared for the IBDP History and Economics courses.
The grade 6 to 10 Individuals and Societies program uses a criteria-referenced assessment framework and an inquiry-driven approach to the subject. The course emphasizes factual and conceptual knowledge of the social sciences and humanities, successful strategies for effective research, skills to organize information and communicate effectively, and critical-thinking skills.
