IB Diploma Programme (IBDP)
The IBDP prepares students for effective participation in a rapidly evolving and increasingly global society as they:
The IB Diploma has proven to be of great value to all students hoping to attend University in Japan and abroad. Students can usually receive college course credit and or advanced placement for a score of 4 or better in a higher-level subject.
Taking the IBDP is a challenging experience. However, students who are motivated and willing to work steadily over two years can succeed. We offer our students three options, the IB Diploma, IB Certificate, and a High School Certificate. For more information please contact the IB Coordinator.
- Develop physically, intellectually, emotionally, and ethically.
- Acquire breadth and depth of knowledge and understanding by studying courses from six subject groups.
- Develop the skills and a positive attitude toward learning that will prepare them for higher education.
- Study at least two languages. Develop a deeper understanding of other cultures, including their own.
- Make connections across traditional academic disciplines and explore the nature of knowledge through the program’s unique theory of knowledge course.
- Undertake in-depth research into an area of interest through the lens of one or more academic disciplines in the extended essay.
- Enhance their personal and interpersonal development through creativity, action, and service.

Requirements
All subjects follow the same assessment scale of 1 (minimum) to 7 (maximum).
To gain the IB Diploma requires a minimum total of 24 points and the satisfactory completion of three additional requirements: the Extended Essay (EE) of some 4,000 words, which provides the valuable experience of completing an independent research paper; a course titled Theory of Knowledge (TOK), which explores the relationships among the various disciplines and ensures that students engage in critical reflection and analysis of the knowledge acquired within and beyond the classroom; and the compulsory CAS program, an extra-curricular creative, active and social service program.
Additional points for satisfactory completion of the EE and TOK can result in the highest possible total score of 45.

Subject Course Offerings
Students are required to choose three subjects at higher level (HL), three subjects at standard level (SL), one additional Group 3 or Group 4 course (if not taking visual arts/music) and one subject for each group (*with some exceptions). Students considering a self-taught language option or alternative course offerings should make arrangements to speak with the IB Coordinator.

Both an English and a Japanese Language A may be chosen for a bilingual diploma. Language course placement is subject to school approval and availability.
